In fact, between 15 and 18 November, the autumn version of Enjoy Collio Experience is scheduled, which celebrates the wine tourism heritage of the "crescent" by hosting a small delegation from the English and American press.
"We are very satisfied with the harvest that has just ended and that has fully respected the summer forecasts - says David Buzzinelli, President of the Consorzio di Tutela Vini Collio -. The 2021 harvest will give great results, with peaks of enological excellence that reward the many efforts that the companies have undertaken in recent months. In this corner of Italy some of the best white wines of the country are produced and our native vines, Malvasia, Ribolla Gialla and Friulano, reach a very high quality, emblem of the extraordinary enological heritage of the Collio, recognized all over the world. Our wines express the magic of a territory where the vineyard hills and unspoiled nature are the theater of beautiful villages, which preserve artistic and cultural wonders to be discovered. the success of last June, we decided to propose a new autumn edition of Enjoy Collio Experience and host and journalists selected from the Anglo-Saxon and American world, with the aim, once more, of giving value to this 'crescent' so fascinating and capable of combining nature, enology and gastronomy in an unmissable mix ".
"We are moving towards the final part of a 2021 which, despite the difficulties we have experienced and which still affect us, has also given us many satisfactions. Our companies, and the many producers of Collio, have done an exceptional job, also recognized by numerous awards that have been assigned to the oenological excellence of this incredible territory: this makes us extremely proud and gives us even more motivation to face the next challenges with enthusiasm ", concludes President Buzzinelli.
Harvest 2021: the general phytosanitary and climatic picture
Thanks to an exceptionally hot and breezy climate, the 2021 harvest began in September, one week later than last, and ended in the first days of October.
The few rains, less than 100 mm, were concentrated in the second decade of September, when the companies had already completed the harvest of most of the white berried grapes, while the harvest of the red grapes lasted until the end of month.
The climate of the month ensured optimal health of the grapes while an appreciable nocturnal temperature excursion favored the aromatic complexity in the white berried grapes. Compared to 2020 there is on average a lower production in terms of quantity of grapes and the first analytical data show a good sugar concentration, with a slight increase in the acid component, fundamental for the aromatic balance of the future wine. Overall, it can be qualitatively defined as an excellent vintage with peaks of excellence.
