In the world of wine the National Register of Carbon Dioxide has been created thanks to Csqa and Valoritalia, the first in Europe.
The certification body Csqa decided to establish a register of carbon dioxide emissions.
To launch the project Csqa chose to start from the wine sector involving Valoritalia, the company that controls 70% of the production of Italian wine with Denomination of Origin.
“CO2 RESA”: we count the emissions saved to the environment
“CO2 RESA” stands for “register of emissions in the agri–food sector”, and is the first example in Europe of a real register for the enhancement of carbon credits in the voluntary market of the food industry. The register will allow to record and monitor the companies that implement measures to reduce the amount of climate–changing gases emitted in their own production. The emissions “saved” to the environment will be measured and recorded with the perspective of a sustainable development and of environmental protection.
The Csqa project
The voluntary market is then fed by credits generated from operations (projects) of reduction of greenhouse gases (GHG) and the change in the emissions of various greenhouse gases can be measured with a single unit of measure, a ton of equivalent CO2. With “Co2 Resa”, Pietro Bonato, general manager of Csqa Certifications, says “ we offer a concrete response to the many food and, in particular, wine companies, who are working on the theme of sustainability and need a tool capable of measuring the efforts made and especially to give evidence of them within the market. An excellent credential for those who purchase, especially for foreign buyers. In this sense – Bonato concludes – with Co2 Resa we are looking at a potential market of absolute importance in the international landscape”.
ldquo;CO2 RESA” provides assurance of traceability of registered credits, which are uniquely identified counteracting the risk of multiple counts and greenwashing, but the real point of strength – the general manager of Csqa, Pietro Bonato, explains – is to ensure the possibility of buying credits generated by mitigation projects that are 100% made in Italy, coming from the Italian food industry. A great credential, especially for foreign buyers”.
CO2 RESA and wine sector
“The wine sector is currently one of the most sensitive to CO2 reduction, also and especially because of its strong export vocation”, the president of Valoritalia Luigino Disegna highlights, according to which the register “will allow companies also to enhance their products in terms of reputation, classifying them as ’green’”.
