In this case, emulation by competitors is not only welcome, but is solicited in everyone's interest. From the point of view of " economic sustainability" , 2022 was a year of strong growth for our company BOTTEGA, thanks to the incessant success of Prosecco in Italy, but above all at an international level. Our turnover has exceeded the remarkable figure of 86 million euros, recording an important growth of 30% compared to 2021. Exports are undoubtedly the driving force, which for us represents 90% of all our products». Sandro Bottega declares it, owner of the company of the same name in Bibano (Treviso) among the main producers of Italian wine and spirits.

Bottega therefore presents some previews of the most salient data of its 2022 sustainability report , which is being put on paper these days and which will be published next July.

In detail, the following points emerge:

  • Reduced water consumption from 4.4 liters in 2021 to 2.31 liters in 2022 for every liter of wine produced.
  • Water used for geothermal energy went from 314,140 m3 in 2021 to 230,147 m3 in 2022. Due to the high winter temperatures, heating was used to a lesser extent. We have also modulated the air conditioning according to the number of people in the office. In any case, the groundwater withdrawn is then reintroduced into the cycle.
  • Introduction of advanced systems that 100% purify the cooling water of the compressor systems, for a total usage of 7,410 litres/year. It should therefore be emphasized that the reference water remains pure at the end of the process.
  • Reduction of the electricity consumption necessary for the production of a liter of wine, grappa and liqueur. In detail, it went from 0.29 kWh in 2020 to 0.23 kWh in 2021 to 0.18 kWh in 2022 for each single liter of wine, grappa or liqueur produced. A good part of this energy is self-produced with a photovoltaic system to the extent of 40%. An expansion is also planned, which will presumably lead to an increase of up to 80% in the months between April and October.
  • Reduced consumption of detergents: -43% in 2022
  • Decreased nitrogen consumption: -32% in 2022

Some important Bottega specificities, with a high green value, are not included in the sustainability report. Among these: the recycling of silicone paper (RafCycle programme), the use of dark bottles produced with at least 50% recycled glass, the exclusive use of FSC Mix certified cartons and catalogues, the choice of water-based paint for the bottles metallized, the cultivation of vineyards according to the criteria of organic farming, the use of recycled plastic collected in the oceans, the suggestion of reusing some bottles as decorative objects or as water carafes.

Bottega has also launched the traceability of the environmental impact of the main suppliers (packaging, transport, etc…), in order to encourage them to continue on this path.
