But not only that: the goal is to combine the needs of businesses with the system of political decision-makers and to create a promoting committee in which stakeholders take responsibility for the development of the territory. This and much more is what emerged on Friday 17 July from the round table entitled "Rural District, from the competition of individuals to the competition of the territories" , promoted by Confagricoltura Umbria and Marco Caprai of the Arnaldo Caprai farm, cellar where he had the meeting that had the aim of focusing the spotlight on how politics and business can share a strategic post-Covid-19 development planning, taking stock of the nascent Rural District of Eastern Umbria, which focuses on wine production with Montefalco and the leading Sagrantino.
The Rural Districts are a resource with great potential, which speaks of identity and common history, of integration between agricultural activities and local services, of consistency between the production of goods and services with a territorial vocation, all aimed at sustainability, primarily social and tourism as well as economic, which passes through the promotion of rural development and the enhancement of quality production , promoting the integration of the supply chain, as well as guaranteeing food safety and safeguarding the territory and the landscape .
After the initial greetings from the mayor of Montefalco Luigi Titta , the intervention of the president of Confagricoltura Umbria, Fabio Rossi , shone the spotlight «on the union of intentions in the direction of creating innovation and economic activity. Aggregation and quality are the keywords, the supply chain is an added value. From hazelnuts to truffles, there are many supply chains in Umbria. However, a change of mentality is needed ».
With Lorenzo Zanni (full professor at the Department of Business and Law Studies of the University of Siena) , the importance of planning the Rural District for the promotion of quality territorial products was explored. DEFINITION OF RURAL DISTRICT
According to the Legislative Decree n. 228 of 2001, the Rural District is a "local production system characterized by a homogeneous historical and territorial identity deriving from the integration between agricultural activities and other local activities, as well as from the production of goods or services of particular specificity, consistent with the traditions and natural and territorial vocations ". Specifically, a rural District is a local production system made up of agricultural and non-agricultural enterprises and public bodies, capable of interacting with each other by implementing a district policy of productive diversification, economic, social integration and cohesion in respect of conservation and reproduction natural balances and capable of promoting total territorial quality, with adequate livability for residents, promoting themselves as a pole of attraction for other businesses and individuals.
