Established by Law 23/2022, it is a voluntary certification that complements the European logo with the aim of consolidating the positioning of organic products both in Italy and abroad, strengthening the recognition and competitiveness of Italian organic products, in compliance with the provisions of European regulations.
" The agreement that greenlights the decree on the Italian organic brand is another step towards launching a measure that can contribute to the sector's development , building trust and traceability, supporting our producers, and ensuring maximum recognition of national organic products for citizens, " says Maria Grazia Mammuccini , president of FederBio. " It is not just a distinctive feature, but a concrete relaunch tool that allows the national organic supply chain to stand out and compete internationally, promoting quality, sustainability, and transparency."
The label helps strengthen the role of farmers who cultivate without synthetic chemicals, protecting ecosystems and biodiversity, identity, and ties to the local area, combining agricultural traditions and sustainability. It can accelerate the sector's growth, making agroecology a benchmark for the entire agri-food system. Data forecasts from the SANA Observatory confirm this: in 2025, organic food sales in Italy are expected to increase by 6.2%, reaching €5.5 billion, while exports are expected to reach nearly €3.9 billion. This is a clear signal: citizens are increasingly concerned about sustainability, and this label adds a further guarantee for those who make informed purchases .
FederBio (feder.bio) is a national federation founded in 1992 by organizations from across the organic and biodynamic agriculture supply chain, with the aim of protecting and promoting their development. Through its member organizations, FederBio brings together almost all representatives of the organic sector, including the main Italian players in production, distribution, certification, standardization, and the protection of the interests of organic operators and technicians.
The Federation is structured into five thematic and professional sections: Producers, Certification Bodies, Processors and Distributors, Service Operators and Technicians, and Cultural Associations. FederBio guarantees the rigorous and correct conduct of its members in accordance with the Code of Ethics and verifies the application of common standards.
