As reported by Corriere della Sera , even today in Italy about 60% of Italians do not fulfill their duty to pay taxes. Furthermore, of the remaining 30%, the largest portion (24%) pays just enough to pay for basic services. "These data present the reality of the facts and make us reflect - continues Sandro Bottega - that in the ancient Venetian Republic, those who paid more taxes were listened to because they supported public affairs. Today, however, the opposite happens. Those who shout louder are listened to, not those who have the competence to speak. Public money is wasted thinking about votes without giving any consideration. Just think of the transport system and the related infrastructure. On the highway that connects Milan to Venice, there are hours of traffic every day and cars that pass over the ferries that cross the Strait of Messina pass 33 times. But investments are preferred there rather than here. Simplification is announced, but to make an SPID for the new legislation, three of my managers - all computer science graduates - took three days to get one. And again, we are an agri-food company that every week, as is right, passes under the control of twenty-three organizations. And this means having a person paid and dedicated only to this. It is necessary that the money is used to control the 'smart guys' who don't pay taxes and give a different message: being honest is positive and taxes are not a State extortion, but if all entrepreneurs pay them they will be fairer and will help make Italy more organized, efficient and less corrupt".
