The President Matilde Poggi writes to Undersecretary Centinaio with the aim of giving a voice to all the actors within the protection consortia.

The representation of everyone within the Consortia is a topic raised and debated for some time by FIVI, which in recent weeks has been rekindled due to the problems relating to the election of the Board of Directors of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG protection consortium . Here the intention emerged to concentrate the management of the denomination in the hands of some large groups, in particular belonging to the cooperative system, with the consequent exclusion of the interests of small producers . The Conegliano Valdobbiadene case is only an example of a widespread situation throughout the country: for this reason, FIVI believes that it is necessary to intervene. In fact, the current legislation (in particular art.8 of Ministerial Decree 232/2018), establishes that the votes are attributed according to the wine production of the previous year, thus evaluating only the quantity produced, without considering the number of producers, nor how much they contribute to the protection of the quality and landscape of the appellation. A further issue is the institution of proxies, expressed by the winegrower members at the time of joining, which gives great power to the Cooperatives that participate in the work of the Consortia, making the other participants almost non-existent.
"This mechanism has inevitable consequences on the effective representation within the Consortia - underlines Matilde Poggi in the letter sent to the Honorable Centinaio - The vote is in the hands of a few large groups and cooperatives , who decide in solitude the strategic choices of management of the denomination ".
The objective of FIVI, as spokesperson for small producers, is to modify this unfair procedure , to allow the effective representation of all the actors in the supply chain for a real protection of the denominations. Small producers represent a system that directs its production towards the highest quality and it is right that each Consortium protects them by recognizing them equal dignity. The invitation is therefore to create a working table to reconsider the representation criteria currently in force, with the aim of strengthening the vitality of the protection consortia by giving voice to all parties.
