In fact, the Morellino di Scansano Consortium has decided to open up to the general public, to whom it will dedicate the opening day of May 14th with an appointment that will see the producers as protagonists, in an important tasting table, and the concert by Joe Bastianich & La Third Class . The part dedicated to operators in the sector has also been confirmed, which will take place on Monday 15th as usual at the former elementary schools of Scansano, with insights and masterclasses that will highlight the typical characteristics of Sangiovese from the Tuscan coast.

The new edition of " Rosso Morellino " wants to celebrate the continuous qualitative and image growth of Morellino di Scansano, which owes its distinctive features to its territory between the sea and the slopes of Monte Amiata. The historic denomination of Maremma comes from years in which it has consolidated its positioning in the Ho.Re.Ca circuit, with performances that highlight the appreciation of consumers who are increasingly interested in labels that refer to the typical features of a specific area. In fact, Morellino owes its success and its uniqueness to the characteristics of its terroir, with the climate and the temperature ranges which favor an excellent ripening of the grapes and a finesse of the aromas. A prestigious condition that allows producers to respond to consumer requests both with wines in the Annata version, where freshness is supported by a good acidity, and with Riserva ones, with greater structure and complexity.

From the beginning we have strongly wanted and created this event with the aim of making our splendid territory and all its excellent products increasingly known".

Sunday 14 May: the great tasting counter and the concert by Joe Bastianich & La Terza Classe

This is the novelty of Rosso Morellino 2023. The curtain on the event celebrating the denomination will rise on Sunday 14 May at the Corrado Beccarini Military Airport in Grosseto (in Via Provinciale Castiglionese, 70). Starting at 18.00 the 4th Stormo will become the exceptional place of the first day of the event. Here, in fact, the Morellino di Scansano open-air exhibition will be set up where over 40 companies , each with its own tasting counter, will welcome the public to promote awareness of the typical features of this great Tuscan red. A unique opportunity to get to know the nuances of Sangiovese from the Tuscan coast through the Vintage and Riserva versions. At 21.00 space for great live music with Rosso Morellino who will host the debut date of the 2023 tour of Joe Bastianich & La Terza Classe . This project stems from Joe Bastianich's boundless passion for American rock, blues, soul and folk music, which led him to the artistic partnership with La Terza Classe, one of the few Italian musical realities that since its inception has been involved in researching and composing music inspired by American folk. Bastianich, in addition to being one of the major entrepreneurs of Italian catering in the world, is also a producer of Morellino di Scansano: his passion for this area of Tuscany, in fact, led his family over twenty years ago to give life to their own project productive with the aim of discovering the oenological greatness of this area of the Maremma.

There will also be the opportunity to taste some gastronomic products thanks to the presence of some food trucks.

Monday 15 May: the day dedicated to operators in the sector

The usual day dedicated to sector operators will take place on Monday. The program will start with the Walk Around Tasting . From 11 to 18 on the upper floor of the former elementary school of Scansano, in via XX Settembre, 30, there will be a wide selection of Morellino di Scansano for free tasting.


Two moments of in-depth analysis are also planned with a blind tasting to discover the different expressions of Morellino conducted by Andrea Gori and Leonardo Romanelli, which will see the participation by Joe Bastianich , at 10.45 am, and an in-depth masterclass always conducted by the two food and wine critics and journalists, at 3 pm.

From 12.30 to 14.30 a buffet will also be open with tastings of typical local products paired with Morellino.

(Scansano, 14 April 2023) For the Morellino di Scansano DOCG Consortium the 55th edition of the Vinitaly in Verona, which took place from 2 to 5 April, was full of fruitful and constructive professional meetings , with live social media, meetings with international buyers and tastings. The institutional stand was the scene of many events which, across the board, welcomed professionals from the world of wine, specialized press and consumers, showcasing the new productive impetus. The quality of the wines and the strategy developed by the board of the Consortium, in fact, are consolidating a continuously growing trend both in terms of value and image for the historic denomination of Maremma.

The most important international fair dedicated to Italian wine, this year opened early for the Morellino di Scansano DOCG Consortium: in fact, on Saturday 1 April , the Sangiovese of the Tuscan coast was the protagonist of an open preview in the center of Verona to guests and accredited press. The prestigious Tailor's & Ties boutique was the setting for a glamorous event that wanted to celebrate the facets of Morellino di Scansano, through a tasting journey made with a selection of over 30 labels, including the Riserva and Annata types.

“It was a Vinitaly full of ideas and many confirmations for our denomination – explains Alessio Durazz i, director of the Morellino di Scansano DOCG Consortium. We collect the fruits of the work of the companies that have given life to wines of depth in recent years, which have contributed to clarifying the identity of our wines”.

Morellino di Scansano, in fact , – continues Durazzi – is the Sangiovese of the Tuscan coast with its distinctive characteristics brought about by a unique territory, between the sea and the slopes of Monte Amiata. The freshness supported by a good acid shoulder of the early years is also maintained during the subsequent evolutionary phases with greater structure and complexity in the Riserva type”.

The efforts of the Consortium are now concentrated on the fifth edition of Rosso Morellino , the in-house event of the denomination which this year will take place on 14 and 15 May . The novelty of this edition will be the opening to the public of enthusiasts with an event that will see the producers as protagonists in an important tasting table and a great show with the presence of a prestigious guest, whose name will be announced in the next few days.
