From May 30th to June 1st the “Selezione del Sindaco” will take place, the famous oenological contest that aims to promote businesses and territories that produce quality wines (DOC, DOCG, IGT) in small batches, ie, in a quantity ranging between 1,000 and 50,000 bottles.
At “Selezione del Sindaco” the Company and the Municipality where vineyards are located always participate together to promote the winning combination of wine and territory
“Selezione del Sindaco” – the only international oenological contest that seees the joint participation of the Company (which produces wine) and the Municipaity (where the vineyards are located) – aims to enhance the small lots of quality wine, the result of tradition and a well–defined territory, and to foster their knowledge even through the Internet.
“Selezione del Sindaco”: in Bolzano the next edition
“Selezione del Sindaco” is itinerant, changes location every year in order to make the most of all the territories of the Cities of Wine. The first first edition in 2002 was held in Siena, then over the years the competition has traveled from north to south to discover the riches of the Cities of Wine. Here are some cities that have hosted the event:
Conegliano (2003), Alba (2004), Roma (2005), Brindisi (2010), Lamezia Terme (2012), Castelfranco Veneto and Asolo (2013).
The 2014 edition will be held in Bolzano. Here, from May 30th to June 1st, the international commissions composed of oenologists, wine technicians, tasters, sommeliers and journalists in the wine and food sector will evaluate the wines in the competition. The tasting committees will evaluate wines with a score in cents. Wines that will exceed 87/100 will be awarded with the Gold Medal; Silver Medal for those who pass 83.5/100.
Subscribers to “Selezione del Sindaco” 2014
The contest was created to offer to small producers that make wines of quality new marketing and sales opportunities. Participation is limited to quality wines (DOCG, DOC, IGT) produced in small batches. Every year, in accordance with the character, also didactical, of the event, a school of Agriculture is involved.
May 18th, 2014 is the deadline for subscriptions for companies of “Selezione del Sindaco”. It is possible to register directly online at the website www.italiavendevino.it . Otherwise, you can download the forms and send them or via e–mail or via fax.
The award ceremony will take place in Rome in July.
The Promoters of the competition are the Cities of Wine National Association and Recevin (the European Network of Cities of Wine), with the scientific sponsorship of OIV (International Organisation of Vine and Wine) and the authorization of the Ministry of Agriculture.
