The best Italian PDO and PGI extra virgin olive oils in the Sirena d’Oro Competition 2014, sponsored by the city of Sorrento in collaboration with FederDop Olio, Unaprol, Aifo and the Oleum Association, were announced at the Chamber of Deputies in Rome.

In Sirena d’Oro 2014, 160 companies from many regions of Italy took part. The bottles of the winners can wear a special collar to increase the recognition of their quality.

The award ceremony will take place in Sorrento, where for four days, from 1st to 4th May, you will have the opportunity to rediscover the traditions, crafts and flavors of the city in Campania with “The values of the territory”: «this competition – the mayor of Sorrento Giuseppe Cuomo said – not only enhances all areas of our country, but also allows us to introduce the excellence of the Campania Felix, whose oil of the hills that slope down to the sea, an example of good agricultural practice, is one of the most appreciated».

The parliamentarian Colomba Mongiello, present at the competition, said: «The importance of an event that goes beyond a recognition of the quality to some companies is confirmed. The ability of our products to be ambassadors of places and traditions, for the benefit of economy, even of turism, is expressed. Agricultural activity is not made of romantic images. It must be able to stand on the market and achieve profits».
