Italian Wine and Italian Oenology

- Italian wine: an identity to be defended

CREA reaffirms the importance of wine as a cultural heritage and economic pillar. Science, cohesion, and transparency are key to addressing global challenges and boosting competitiveness.

- Institutional campaign: the Government defends wine

Federvini and the Italian government have joined forces to develop a communications strategy to protect wine from prohibitionist tendencies. Wine is a symbol of Mediterranean civilization and "conscious drinking."

- CIA to the Government: promotion, education and structural measures

The Wine Table is making concrete requests: educational campaigns, support for young people, and tools to address the US consumer crisis and tariffs.

- Italian wine: less consumption, unsold wine

Domestic consumption is falling dramatically: from 16.6 liters per capita in 1970 to less than 5 today. Prices and health concerns are pushing the public to cut back, while wine remains in the cellars.

- New national strategy to promote wine

Palazzo Chigi hosts the main players in the supply chain to build a shared vision against neo-prohibitionism and in favor of opening up to new markets.

- The Government is focusing on wine: 8.1 billion in exports

With the ColtivaItalia project, one billion euros has been allocated to agriculture. Wine, which achieved record exports in 2024, is at the heart of the national economic recovery.

- Confeuro: We need new markets and a balanced narrative.

Andrea Tiso calls for more accurate communication about wine and international openness to reduce dependence on markets under attack (such as the USA).

- Lazio harvest: 8%

Confagricoltura Latina expects an 8% increase in harvests in Lazio. This is good news for regional agriculture, especially at a challenging time for the entire agri-food sector.

International

FranceAgriMer reports a -3% in volume sales in French large-scale retail trade in the first half of 2025. Champagne is also struggling, awaiting the consequences of US tariffs.

In 2024, English wine is expected to grow in size and sales (3%). There are 238 active wineries, over 1,100 vineyards, and exports are set to increase by 35%. However, operating costs are putting the sector on high alert.

- US tariffs: EU calls for clarity, but it will take months

The EU is seeking agreements to eliminate tariffs on products like wine, but the situation remains uncertain. Trump's executive order is stirring up tensions, and companies fear price increases and export delays.

- Bordeaux in crisis: Global Food buys Château La Rivière

255 companies facing bankruptcy, plans for distillation and estate sales: the French crisis is attracting investment funds. The case of Château La Rivière, acquired by Global Food, is just the first sign.
