News about Italian wines and oenology

The structure is divided into three thematic macro-categories: Italian wineries , Italian wine and Italian oenology .

ITALIAN WINERIES

Sicily — Oro d'Etna: a winery to discover at the foot of the volcano A journey through lava vineyards, intense aromas and a memorable tasting: the Oro d'Etna winery enchanted a group of visiting friends. An authentic experience for those seeking true emotions among the island's vineyards.

Grumello del Monte (BG) — La Collina Wine: five generations of passion The Invernici family carries on the Bergamo winemaking tradition with an artisanal approach and a modern vision. 90 thousand bottles a year, a closed supply chain and a strong bond with the territory.

Trentino — Portraits: the new soul of La-Vis wines The historic cooperative relaunches the “Portraits” line with a project that gives personality to its wines: the Pinot Noir is elegant, the Chardonnay romantic, the Sauvignon eclectic. An oenological and sensorial story that unites past and present.

Alto Adige — Appius has a home: the new San Michele Appiano winery has been inaugurated A place dedicated to time, art and signature wines. A “temple” is born for the most prestigious cuvée of the historic Alto Adige winery, in the name of contemplation and quality.

Sorrento — The Grand Hotel La Favorita opens its 500-label cellar A new space for tastings with a sea view: the proposal of Zest, a starred restaurant led by Domenico Iavarone, is enriched with an international selection and exclusive food and wine events.

Piedmont — “Il Risveglio del Ceppo” at Cantina Barbera dei Sei Castelli Wines from ancient clones, cultivated with regenerative viticulture and a project that merges art and terroir. A return to the origins to face the future.

Sicily — Baglio di Pianetto presents Fushà Extra Brut The Charmat d'altura signed by Graziana Grassini represents the new face of Sicilian bubbles: elegance, permanence on the yeasts and valorization of the terroir.

ITALIAN WINE

The market holds, but watch out for duties 2025 saw Italian companies shift exports to Canada, the UK and Japan, avoiding the risk of US duties. Bottling is down (-3.3%) but the sector has responded with strategy and resilience.

The market rewards bubbles and “ready to drink” According to Valoritalia's 2025 Annual Report, the demand for sparkling wines (5%) and easy-to-drink wines is growing. Reds (-6.8%) and IGTs (-6.3%) are doing badly. The system is holding up, but selectivity is increasing.

Valoritalia: a 2024 of consolidation 2.019 billion Dop and Igp bottles placed on the market. Whites (-5%) and Igt do badly, but Pinot Grigio, Prosecco and some Docg such as Barolo, Brunello, Bolgheri hold up. The total value exceeds 9 billion.

Focus on export and EU promotion Italy, France and Spain ask for more support from the European Commission to address the consumer crisis and international competition. The “wine package” is a first response, but it is not enough.

“Piemonte” on the label: consortia approve the change We are moving towards the possibility of including the mention “Piemonte” on all regional denominations. A strategy to strengthen the territorial brand.

“How is Italian wine doing?” A sector in unstable equilibrium between duties, wars and falling consumption. But the system shows solidity: 1.4% compared to the five-year average, a sign of adaptability and competitiveness.

10 reds to drink even in summer Let's break down the prejudice of seasonality: even in summer, red wines know how to have their say. The article offers an ironic and passionate selection for those who do not want to give up tannins under the sun.

ITALIAN OENOLOGY

Nicola Biasi: from Italy to the Moselle, with a Riesling all his own The Friulian winemaker arrives in Germany with the Mosella Project: a dry, “outside dogma” Riesling that challenges the conventions of German winemaking tradition.

All Down to the Cellar: Between Innovation and Academic Research High-level oenological training event organized by the University of Tuscia and CREA: focus on sustainability, technology and connection between the production world and young people.

Cantina Bottenago hosts the event on training and ESG transition During the cycle “The ESG ecosystem” the key role of training in addressing digital and green transition was discussed. Wine was also the protagonist as a place of dialogue between businesses, schools and innovation.

Microplastics in wine? More in glass bottles than in plastic ones According to a new study, corks would be the main source of contamination. Glass, considered more sustainable, can release 5 to 50 times more microplastics than plastic and metal.

Terroir, Myth and Marketing A critical analysis of the rhetoric of “terroir wine”. Between the sacralization of terroir and narrative for commercial use, we reflect on the complexity of an often idealized concept.
