Italian wineries, Italian wine producers, and current wine news

Good morning,

Llina launches Adoréa, a project dedicated to original, regional, and contemporary wines. The goal is to combine quality, drinkability, and innovation, creating a recognizable identity in the Brescia market.

Menale Winery: Two Gold Awards for its Asprinio di Aversa

The Campania winery has won two WineHunter Award Golds for its Asprinio di Aversa DOP 2024 and its Spumante Metodo Classico di Asprinio 2024. This recognition recognizes the quality and valorization of a historic grape variety from the Agro Aversano area.

Cornaiano: The historic Rundkeller winery has been restored.

In Appiano, South Tyrol, the Rundkeller, purchased by the municipality in 2020, has been renovated. The building is now a public space for meetings, exhibitions, and cultural events, contributing to the preservation of the historic winemaking heritage.

2. ITALIAN WINE, OENOLOGY AND MARKET

Not all wines are vegan: the role of clarification

Animal-based fining agents, such as egg white, casein, gelatin, and isinglass, may be used during production. Many wineries instead use plant-based or mineral alternatives, or avoid fining entirely. This distinction is important for consumers seeking vegan wines.

Large-scale retail trade: possible cuts to wine assortments in 2027

According to a report by Winemag, a major Italian retail group is preparing to revise its product range and supplier relationships due to declining sales in both volume and value. This prospect is increasing commercial pressure on wineries.

Piedmont: €1.5 million to address wine stocks

The Region is allocating extraordinary funds to support wineries in managing unsold wine. In the Asti area, reported stocks reach approximately one million hectoliters. The Democratic Party is calling for the organization of a general assembly for the sector.

Campania: Fiano, Greco, and Falanghina win top wines.

The selection of 21 regional excellences highlights the qualitative leadership of Campania's white wines. Fiano di Avellino stands out for its complexity and aging potential, Greco di Tufo for its structure and personality, while Falanghina del Sannio continues to improve. The red wines are also evolving toward more balanced styles.

Etna Bianco: Milo, the star of great volcanic wines

On the eastern slopes of Etna, Milo confirms its vocation for elegant, long-lived white wines. Altitude, volcanic soils, and climate conditions favor wines characterized by freshness, complexity, and aging potential. Interest in Etna's white wines is growing.

Urban Vineyards: Wine Takes Center Stage in Cities

From Leonardo's Vineyard in Milan to the MonteNapoleone Harvest, the relationship between wine and the city becomes an opportunity for cultural and touristic promotion. Malvasia di Milano represents an example of historical revival and winemaking experimentation.

Oltrepò Pavese: vineyards, villages, and landscapes for autumn tourism

The Oltrepò Pavese hills offer itineraries through the Versa Valley, Staffora Valley, Golferenzo, Montalto Pavese, and Zavattarello. The autumnal landscape enhances the area's potential for rural tourism, winery visits, and wine tourism.

Wine and Culture: From Lorenzo de' Medici to Francesco Redi

A historical study explores the role of wine in Italian society from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. Through the traditions of Medici Tuscany, the value of wine as an element of cultural, nutritional, and social identity emerges.

3. INTERNATIONAL

France: Wine's Cultural Heritage Worth Billions

A Deloitte study commissioned by Vin & Société estimates that French citizens would be willing to pay an average of 94 euros per year to preserve the national wine heritage and 123 euros to enhance it. The overall estimated intangible value is between 5.2 and 6.8 billion euros.

James Suckling and Marco Simonit: Safeguarding Old Vineyards

During Wine Vision by Open Balkan 2026 in Belgrade, James Suckling and Marco Simonit presented the Great Vineyards for Life project, dedicated to vine longevity and sustainable pruning. The experience of the Mirae vineyard in New Zealand demonstrates the importance of agronomic management in enhancing old Pinot Noir vines.

Champagne: one territory, many interpretations

An in-depth look at Champagne highlights the diversity of its vineyards, producers, and production styles. Behind a powerful international identity lie numerous territorial expressions, enhancing the appellation's prestige.

Alcohol and Oral Health: A US Study on the Microbiome

A preliminary study by the National Institutes of Health, conducted on 5,598 participants, analyzed the association between beverage consumption and oral bacterial composition. The study, published as a preprint on October 9, 2026, does not demonstrate a cause-and-effect relationship and has yet to be peer-reviewed.

4. WINE EVENTS, TRAINING AND TERRITORY

Merano WineFestival 2026: Four wines achieve 100/100.

The 35th edition, scheduled for November 6th to 10th in Merano, will feature 810 wineries and over 2,600 products. For the first time, four wines have earned the highest score at the WineHunter Award Platinum:

  • Ferrari Perlé Trento DOC 2002

The MonteNapoleone Harvest: Wine, Fashion, and Culture in Milan

The 17th edition brings tastings, meetings, and installations dedicated to the grape harvest to Milan's fashion district, strengthening the dialogue between wine, luxury, and the promotion of Italian excellence.

5. FOCUS ON AGRI-FOOD – EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL MARKET

Italian olive oil: prices down 47% in one year

According to Areté, the recovery in Spanish production and the recovery in international supplies have contributed to the decline in prices for Italian extra virgin olive oil. The price differential compared to EU oil is also narrowing.

Stocks of Italian extra virgin olive oil are increasing sharply.

According to ICQRF data as of September 30, 2026, Italian extra virgin olive oil stocks reached 82,195 tons, a 170.5% increase over the previous year. The highest concentrations are in the southern regions.

Consumer prices of extra virgin olive oil in 2026

The indicative prices found in the price lists consulted range between 6 and 10 euros per liter for large-scale retail products, 10-14 euros for some Italian products, and 15-20 euros or more for organic and geographically designated oils. These are indicative ranges, not national averages.

WINE IDEA'S POINT OF VIEW – OCTOBER 11, 2026

Italian wine faces three challenges simultaneously: selling better, protecting the value of businesses, and developing new markets.

Today's news highlights several important aspects: pressure from large-scale distribution, accumulating inventory, and the need to rethink commercial strategies.

At the same time, the experiences of Italian wineries, the qualitative growth of regions like Campania and Etna, and the valorization of historic vineyards demonstrate that significant development opportunities still exist.

For entrepreneurs and investors, it is essential to evaluate not only a winery's viticultural and real estate assets, but also its organization, profitability, market positioning, and concrete growth potential.

The future of wine will depend not only on the quality of production, but on the ability of companies to transform this quality into lasting economic value.
