News on Italian wine and oenology

ITALIAN WINERIES

Hofstätter and the Boom in Dealcoholized Wines Martin Foradori Hofstätter recounts the unexpected growth of dealcoholized wines: today, they represent 15% of the company's turnover, with 200,000 bottles produced. Eighty percent of sales are in Italy, primarily in the Horeca channel. The central theme: giving dignity to this category, including with geographical indications on the label.

The winery in the woods on the Asiago Plateau. Andrea Paganin and Anna Costa built a winery in the woods at 800 meters above sea level, in a rugged vineyard where once not even potatoes grew. Architecture, vision, and heroic agriculture.

Architecture goes to the cellar. Cellars become contemporary cathedrals: from technical facilities to iconic spaces designed by Calatrava, Gehry, Hadid, Botta, and Piano. A journey that unites production, experience, and the local image.

Two Tuscia wineries among the best in Lazio. Two "made in Tuscia" businesses have been awarded at Roma Vino 2025. The region celebrates production, innovation, and winemaking history, with an eye on young people and female entrepreneurship.

The Cotarella family and Cantina Stefanoni win awards at Roma Vino 2025. Two outstanding Viterbo wineries have won recognition at the prestigious Rome Chamber of Commerce. The award recognizes quality and entrepreneurial vision.

Collio wineries devastated by severe weather: a solidarity bank account has been opened. The Collio Consortium is responding to the disaster: landslides, floods, and two deaths have severely affected Cormons and Dolegna. Significant losses have been suffered in vineyards and wineries.

ITALIAN WINE AND ITALIAN OENOLOGY

BereBene 2026: the best wines under €20. The Gambero Rosso guide selects 6,000 labels with the best value. Focus on territorial identity, balance, company history, and biodiversity.

Uiv – Varvaglione: €100 million per year for foreign promotion. The new resources included in the 2026-2028 Budget are an important signal to support exports struggling due to tariffs, a weak dollar, and slowing consumption.

Young farmers against the new CAP. Anga Piacenza denounces a reform that would reduce resources and certainty. The risk: weakening those who actually produce, increasing constraints and bureaucracy.

AIS Piemonte: 60 Years of History and a Look to the Future . A conference featuring academic and professional contributions. Italian wine: cultural evolution, environmental challenges, and new forms of consumption.

A toast to Emilia-Romagna: Lambrusco, Pignoletto, and Sangiovese tell the story of a region made up of large cooperatives and tenacious small winemakers, committed to overcoming climate and pests.

Be.come Naples: Young People Seek Authenticity. Millennials and Gen Z drink less but better: they reject formalism and seek "authentic," transparent, and narrative products. Allumeuse and Gabriele Gorelli MW explore the new grammar of wine.

A glass for every wine? Perhaps, but a universal one is enough. A practical and humorous analysis of the domestic use of glasses: fewer complications, more functionality.

INTERNATIONAL

Penedès: the wine where it all began with the Phoenicians. The area that produces 95% of Cava tells of an ancient past and an evolving present. A region that today returns to its roots to look to the future.

Champagne: A Legend Between History and Future In Francesco Piccat's book, Champagne becomes a lens on European taste, from its Burgundian origins to the English revolution in sparkling wine making techniques and contemporary challenges.

Campari is considering the sale of Averna, Braulio, and Zedda Piras. According to rumors, the group may sell off three historic brands to consolidate its core aperitif business (Aperol and Campari). The market is in turmoil, with the stock price rising.
