Solopaca Winery: 60 Years and a New Project

Tenuta Casali awarded at Città del Vino 2026

WINE MARKET
Over 53 million hectoliters in Italian cellars
Stocks of wine and must exceed 53 million hectolitres, compared to a 2025 national production of approximately 44 million.
In May 2026, stocks were up 7.3%, while markets are slowing down:
• Italian large-scale distribution: –2%; • exports by volume: –4%; • exports by value: –8.3%.
To reduce inventories, some companies are downgrading part of their production, with the risk of increasing pressure on prices.
UIV: produce according to demand
The president of the Italian Wine Union, Lamberto Frescobaldi, emphasizes the need to rebalance supply and demand and plan production based on market capacity.
The sector represents approximately 1.1% of Italian GDP and generates a positive trade balance of over 7 billion euros.
Downgrades and falling prices
Approximately one in five bottles would be affected by downgrading processes.
In the first five months of 2026, bulk prices decreased:
• DOP wines: –6%; • IGP wines: –7%; • common wines: –14.4%.
The priority is to contain supply and protect the value of the denominations.
Piedmont focuses on vinegar and vermouth
The Piedmont Region is allocating €1.7 million to support the sector and facilitate the transformation of approximately 40,000 hectoliters of unsold wine into vinegar, vermouth, spirits, and other products.
Artisanal vinegar can become a premium product, transforming surpluses into new economic opportunities.
