Trump Administration's Tariffs Shake Up Vinitaly
With the entry into force of new US customs duties on European agri-food products, the climate at the 57th edition of Vinitaly is marked by strong concern. The president of ICE, Matteo Zoppas , underlined:
“From midnight, every Italian product crossing the Atlantic will be subject to a new tax.”
US Distributors: “No Surcharge”
According to Lamberto Frescobaldi (Uiv), US distributors refuse to take on the extra costs. Formal letters confirm that Italian companies risk having to absorb the burden entirely or pass it on to the consumer, with the concrete risk of losing competitiveness.
The numbers at stake: a 2 billion impact
Coldiretti and the main trade associations (Assoenologi, Federvini, Alleanza Cooperative) raise the alarm:
“2 billion euros of exports to the USA, the main market for Italian wine, at risk.”
Antinori: “A $10 Bottle Could Cost $20”
During a discussion at Casa Coldiretti , Alessia Antinori illustrated the practical effects:
“For wines in the $10-$15 range, the impact will be devastating, especially for those working in large volumes.”
