Wine Intelligence Director said low alcohol wines increased sales by 14% during 2011 in the UK market. The data comes from Wine Intelligence's study of Sainsbury's supermarkets.
"Distributors are ready to allocate 10% of their shelves to this type of wine. Even if - explains Richard Halstead, general manager of Wine Intelligence - I think that a specific tax will soon arise for these wines, otherwise the more classic products, above 11 °, remain excessively disadvantaged from a fiscal point of view ".
Furthermore, Wine Intelligence carried out a survey on this subject, which showed that:
13 million UK consumers commonly buy low alcohol wine .
- 5 million say they are interested in the product.
- 10 million wine lovers do not want low alcohol wines.
