Exports threatened by duties, but agri-food grows by 9%

 

Italian agri-food exports reached 70 billion euros in 2024, with a 9% increase compared to the previous year. This sector now represents 11% of total Made in Italy exports. Matteo Zoppas, president of ICE, stressed the need to absorb price increases and aim for a target of 700 billion euros in exports. However, the wine sector faces challenges such as counterfeiting and duties.

Wine Import 2024: An Uncertain Picture on International Markets

Italy performed well in the US, Brazil, Canada and Japan, but faced difficulties in China, Korea and Germany. In China, wine imports grew by 38%, but Italy lost 10% of its market share due to the return of Australian wines, favored by the elimination of Chinese supertariffs.

US duties on European wine: risk for Valpolicella and Made in Italy

The US administration has announced a 25% duty on European agricultural exports, starting April 2. Christian Marchesini, president of the Consorzio Vini Valpolicella, warns that this measure represents a threat to the sector, considering that the US is the first non-EU market for Italian wine.
