Three production cooperatives that will plant over 20,000 vines in Verbumcaudo, in the Madonie, between Polizzi Genorosa (Palermo) and Vallelunga Pratameno (Caltanissetta). The lands will go to three cooperatives "Pio La Torre", "Placido Rizzotto" and "Lavoro e non solo" and they want to give work to young people.
The area was handed over on the anniversary of the death of Placido Rizzotto, a trade unionist killed by the mafia. The 6-hectare plot of land will be dedicated to him.
For the initiative, promoted by the Sicilian Region and with a strong symbolic value, an evocative slogan was chosen: "Sprouts of hope".
The regional councilor for agriculture, Dario Cartabellotta, said: "This project - he said - will enhance the Sicilian agricultural heritage and will also have an educational and research purpose".
He added moved Vincenzo Liarda, trade unionist of the CGIL "Today - he said - I can not hold back all my emotion but also the satisfaction of returning to production and legality a good that will create jobs".
