In September, in the province of Crotone, a mission of rabbis will come to test the level of purity of the wines by De Luca. Vincenzo De Luca, the owner of a small winery founded in 1994 in Melissa says "We are not Jews, we have no religious inspiration, but there are only business reasons behind the decision to produce kosher wine". In Calabria is located the first plantation from which bottles of wine labeled as "sacred" will be produced, ie produced according to the rules and rituals of the Old Testament.
To produce kosher means materially new machinery, new products for wine processing and new techniques of harvest. Everything to get the brand "kosher" and break through a barrier to the market.
The De Luca company, from the next harvest, will convert the entire production from ordinary to kosher, from "normal" to "pure". "The idea - the owner tells - came to my mind in New York, during an event dedicated to wine. At the American market we reserve a part of our production, and some customers asked us kosher products. I immediately searched for information on rules and costs, and I decided to invest. For us, now an important basin of supplies and demands will develop".
