The second edition of " Etna Days - I Vini del Vulcano " is underway, an event created by the Consorzio Tutela Vini Etna DOC and dedicated to the press and international professionals to deepen their knowledge of the wines that are born at the foot of the highest active volcano in Europe . For three days, from 13 to 15 September, forty representatives of important publications from the USA, the United Kingdom and other European countries will take part in an intense program which includes trips to the vineyards of the Etna denomination, visits to the cellar, masterclasses and tastings.
“After the excellent feedback from the first edition, this year we wanted to propose an event of strategic importance for our companies, which are increasingly attentive to promoting and making their wines known outside national borders,” explains Francesco Cambria, president of the Consortium for the Protection of Etna DOC Wines. "The Etna wine-growing landscape has unique characteristics in the world, observing it up close is the ideal way, perhaps the only one, to truly grasp its peculiarities. The Etna Days are a format designed, precisely in this sense, to leave an indelible memory among journalists and experts from our key export markets."
The calendar of the second edition of Etna Days, after the welcome on Wednesday 13 September, will see an intense day of study and in-depth analysis, with a masterclass on the many nuances of the types of wine produced on Etna and a walk-around tasting in which they will participate 102 companies belonging to the Consortium and many producers with whom you can compare. On Thursday 14th and Friday 15th September the journalists, divided into groups, will visit 40 companies in the Etna area. The day will end in Catania with a visit to the city and a special final wine party.
The Consortium for the Protection of Etna DOC Wines brings together 442 producers and, in 2022, 5.8 million bottles marketed under the denomination. The great interest received in recent decades by critics and the market is motivated by the quality of the wines and by a natural and anthropic heritage of inestimable value: the presence of ancient native varieties such as Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Carricante, the volcanic composition of the land, the presence of ultra-centenarian and pre-phylloxera vineyards, the sapling cultivation system, a rich and varied landscape, made up of 4 slopes and 133 districts
