The Tuscany Region played a key role in the recognition process, led by the vice president and councilor for agriculture Stefania Saccardi. The president of the Consortium, Cesare Cecchi, expressed his satisfaction with this result, underlining that it marks the beginning of a new path to develop programs for the management, protection, supervision and enhancement of Toscana IGT wines.
The Consorzio Vino Toscana can now engage in the protection, promotion and development of Toscana IGT wines. He will be involved in the fight against imitations and counterfeits, working with international authorities. Furthermore, it will collaborate with the Italian regional and national authorities to manage and supervise the production and marketing of products.
The numbers of Toscana IGT wine highlight its economic importance: the value of production exceeds 495 million euros, of which 69% is intended for export. Exports have grown 126% over the past decade, with major overseas markets including Europe, the United States and Asia.
The Consortium represents 1594 producers and an annual production of around 95.5 million bottles of Toscana IGT wine. The percentage share of this wine on the total wine production in Tuscany is 27%. The structure of the Consortium is led by the president Cesare Cecchi and includes important figures of the wine industry. Their mission is now focused on the enhancement of Toscana IGT wines, promoting the "Toscana" brand both nationally and internationally.
