The best Green Wines 2024: Gambero Rosso rewards 174 virtuous labels

  • 15/10/2023

This year the Tre Bicchieri Verdi represent 35% of the total winners of Vini d'Italia and stand out for an increasingly marked commitment to a more sustainable world

When sustainable rhymes with excellent: the number of Italian wineries that embrace the cause of sustainability is growing, adopting an organic or biodynamic approach and the qualitative goodness of these projects is clearly growing. This is clearly demonstrated by the awards assigned by Gambero Rosso to 174 green labels that occupy a prominent place in the prestigious Vini d'Italia 2024 guide just published: an absolute record for this edition, which represents 35% of the total awarded wines . Flexibility and willingness to change and great determination in an enlightened experimentation that is certainly more attentive to the environment and consumer tastes but not willing to make discounts on the quality of the final product.

Among the most virtuous regions, Tuscany stands out with its 40 wineries, followed by Lombardy with 17, Sicily and Marche with 16, Veneto and Piedmont with 14, Puglia with 11 and Abruzzo with 10 wineries.

Umbria wins the Award for Sustainable Viticulture , supported by Zignago Vetro, awarded to Terre Margaritelli di Torgiano, an example of quality viticulture that respects the environment and social values.

Among the numerous brands, the 8 certified biodynamic wineries stand out, four from Tuscany, two from Lombardy, one from Veneto and one from Abruzzo, which have proven to embody the basic values of making quality wine with particular regard for nature:

  • Due Mani di Riparbella (PI), with its Cabernet Franc Duemani, 2020 version
