Tenuta Sette Cieli , the winery owned by Ambrogio Cremona Ratti and led by oenologist and CEO Elena Pozzolini, expands its vineyard in the DOC Bolgheri with two new hectares planted with cabernet franc (65%) and merlot (35%), an important step to strengthen its presence and identity in the renowned wine production area. The new lands are located at 130 meters above sea level, a higher altitude than the 60 meters above sea level of the 5 hectares already existing within the DOC. But the expansion plan does not end there: in spring 2023 the start-up of an additional 1.4-hectare Bolgheri plant is expected, cultivated with cabernet franc and destined for IGT production. “At the end of 2023, our company will have a total of 18.5 hectares of vineyards – explains Elena Pozzolini -. We have decided to plant new vineyards also encouraged by the 99% vertical growth in the first half of 2022 compared to the same half in 2021, a first result of the work we are carrying out aimed at strengthening our distribution at national and international level. We confirm the leading role of cabernet franc, a variety that we never tire of exploring and that we wish to establish as the cru of our production”. Specifically, analyzing the pre-Covid and subsequent periods, it should be noted that if 2019 ended with an 11% compared to 2018, 2020 with -9% and 2021 with a 52%, 2022 is heading towards a overall economic growth of 22% compared to 2021 . A trend confirmed by sales, with 2022 which to date records a total of 115,464 bottles sold against 91,722 in the previous year, considering a 15% increase in the average price in Italy, an index of the value recognized to the wines of Tenuta Sette Cieli. There have also been important results in terms of production: if in 2020 the bottles produced were around 90,000, this year production reached 120,000 units , a figure consistent with the more than positive performance of the company. Shifting the focus to the markets of interest , sales are distributed 20% in Italy and 80% abroad . The strongest and most consolidated presence is recorded in the United States, followed by Switzerland and England, the latter particularly interested in the top-of-the-range Indaco and Scipio wines. Regarding the opening of new markets , 2022 recorded a considerable turnover related to Serbia .
Tenuta Sette Cieli was born in Monteverdi Marittimo, on a hill above Bolgheri, in 1995 on the initiative of Erika Ratti who took the vision of craftsmanship from her father, a well-known entrepreneur in the textile sector, to bring it to the world of wine. Over the years the property has expanded under the guidance of his son Ambrogio Cremona Ratti and CEO and oenologist Elena Pozzolini, counting today on over 18 hectares of vineyards between Bolgheri, Monteverdi Marittimo and Castagneto Carducci. With Yantra , Noi4 , Indaco and Scipio , the estate's representative wine, Sette Cieli chooses a precise and solid style which translates into conscious cultivation techniques - from the adoption of the organic regime to the choice of minimal interventions in the vineyard - and in separate vinifications which involve the use of indigenous yeasts. An identity that makes more and more space in the Bolgheri DOC and that finds the protagonist of its wine production in the cabernet franc.
