"Tasting Lagrein". Two awards were not enough

In its fifth edition, for the first time there was an ex aequo in the "vintage" Lagrein category between the interpretation of a winemaker and the one of a historic winery of producers. The "Best Lagrein Riserva" recognition, instead, rewards the sub–area of Gries.

Simultaneously with Vinea Tirolensis, they were held during the Hotel fair the tastings of the award dedicated to Lagrein. The comparative tasting – organized in collaboration with the South Tyrol Wines Consortium – has enriched the agenda of events related to wine during the show dedicated to hospitality and gastronomy.

Even for this 5th edition, a jury composed of Italian and international wine journalist, found out the "Best Lagrein" and "Best Lagrein Riserva" from a selection of 60 labels for tasting, all strictly coming from the wineries of the South Tyrol Wines Consortium.

«Lagrein is a special vine that has really unique characteristics – the chairman of the jury Peter Schleimer, of the VINARIA Austrian magazine, said –. We need to congratulate in particular the companies for their diligent work in the cellar despite the complexity of the 2014 vintage».

With a perfectly coincident score, the "Best Lagrein" category assigns the "Lagrein Award" to as many as two labels: Lagrein DOC 2014 of Ansitz Waldgries, a company led by winemaker Christian Plattner, and Lagrein DOC Spigel 2013 of Kellerei Kaltern–Caldaro, historic wine producers with over 400 members. In the category "Best Lagrein Riserva" to triumph is instead Lagrein Riserva Grieser DOC Prestige Line 2013 of Kellerei Bozen–Bolzano , a winery which brought together the centuries old experiences of Gries and Santa Maddalena. These wines will be available for tasting during the fourth day of Hotel.

In this way, the wine days at Fiera Bolzano end, this year landmark for hundreds of industry operators. Autochtona, the twelfth National Forum of native wines, which took place on 19th and 20th October, has confirmed the more than 1,200 visitors recorded in the 2014 edition, with 120 producers from 15 different Italian regions, for a total of 480 native labels for tasting.

Among the main events of the festival, the selection "Autoctoni che passione!" – This year chaired by journalist Pier Bergonzi, deputy director of "La Gazzetta dello Sport" – has decreed the top wines in 2015 out of a group of 76 wines selected among those for tasting. Excellent results also for "Vinea Tirolensis", the area dedicated to the Winegrowers of South Tyrol, which registered a record attendance of over 900 presences.

The appointment with the next edition of Autochtona is Fiera Bolzano on 24th and 25th October 2016. An unmissable occasion to discover, promote and enhance the native Italian production.
