In Sicily a database of native grape varieties has been created, on the basis of the specific studies on genetic traceability by Irvos and Coribia.
The regional database of native grape varieties is the result of studies carried out on genetic traceability by Irvos and Coribia, the Consortium for Research on biological risk in agriculture: 5,209 putative clones of already known varieties have been studied, 1,438 of less known grape varieties and 136 clones of ’relic’ vines.
In addition, the viruses that attack vines have been analysed and the healthy parts for multiplication have been isolated, with the support of experts from the Ministry of Health.
