It is from this model that Ermenegildo Giusti was inspired when he decided to bet, first in Veneto, on resistant hybrid vines, convinced that, after him, many other producers will also choose this choice. A bet that today, with the 2021 harvest, is confirmed to be won also in terms of quality.
« The meteorological trend of 2021 created many problems in Italy, largely linked to the late spring frost that hit Northern Italy. Fortunately, our resistant hybrid vines were not affected, thanks to their late bud break. - Says Ermenegildo Giusti, at the helm of Giusti Wine. - This is certainly the best harvest ever made since the moment of planting and the resistant varieties thus demonstrate that they also know how to respond, at least in part, to the needs determined by climate change. » The quantity produced will be lower than the average but the qualitative data are very interesting in terms of the development of the aromas in the white grape varieties Sauvignon Nepis and Sauvignon Rythos, and of the tannins and anthocyanins in the red grape varieties Merlot Khorus and Cabernet Volos.
« I chose to implant resistant hybrids out of the desire to" change ". When I was little, then a few quintals were made per hectare because only a few natural substances were used. Today, thanks to fertilizers and the use of technology, the vineyards produce much more but the animals have disappeared. So I came up with the idea of making my dream come true and setting off first in the territory with the aim of bringing back the flora and fauna I remembered, making the vineyard a hospitable place.
I believe in resistant vines even more than in organic viticulture, which I have applied in the Case Bianche Estate. The resistant vines allow to drastically reduce the interventions in the vineyard and I strongly believe in this choice. My hope is that soon the Docs will also authorize its use. "
