  • 25/07/2012

The Protection Consortium in collaboration with the Department of Biology of the University of Padua and with Veneto Agriculture has started a monitoring and cataloging of plant species in the Conegliano Valdobbiadene area.
Purpose of the initiative: to protect the environment and learn about the differences in the territory. This study will make it possible to protect the biodiversity of the area.

The Consortium for Protection, in collaboration with Veneto Agriculture, promotes research that will lead to an articulated and distributed monitoring over the hills.
There was a preselection based on the cultivation techniques used and on the site characteristics. This step led to the selection of 26 companies, where a total of 260 withdrawals were made during the spring.

At the same time, another research aims to highlight the differences between the individual sub-areas of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore appellation. The Department of Biology is in charge of this, which has set up a herbarium of the Denomination where samples of the plants detected are represented and stored. The database has, for now, cataloged about 200 different plant species within the Prosecco Superiore vineyards, it will allow to obtain models in which the effect of natural factors and factors related to human work on diversity will be evaluated. vegetable of the vineyards. This can provide further useful elements to understand which technical measures winegrowers should employ to protect and safeguard the natural landscape present in the hilly area today.
