Prosecco DOCG: waste becomes energy

  • 16/05/2013

The vine shoots can be used as fuel to produce thermal energy as long as boilers of medium-high power are used, enabling the use of filters to remove suspended powders.

This is one of the outcomes of the Pro.s.e.c.co project, an acronym which stands for "sustainable production of energy from combustion and compost", presented in Valdobbiadene, promoted
by the Consortium of Prosecco DOCG and funded by the Psr of Veneto.

The composting of shoots and vinasse is therefore a good way to get humus to reuse in the vineyards and enrich the soil, and a good solution for bio-sanitize shoots from the residues of pesticides in the vineyard and from the pathogens present in the wood.

The Pro.s.e.c.co project is still in progress. We await the results to see which eco-compatible solutions will emerge.
