Heroic viticulture will be able to enjoy specific financial resources to carry out the vineyard management interventions with typical local practices, such as the consolidation of structures with traditional techniques (dry stone walls, ciglioni); the use of autochthonous vines, the enhancement, promotion and advertising of grapes and wines attributable to " heroic or historical viticulture " also through the use of a national brand: it provides - explains Confagricoltura - the Decree n. 6899 of 30 June 2020 published on the website of the Ministry of Agriculture, relating to the "safeguarding of historic and heroic vineyards" in implementation of Law no. 238 of 2016, the so-called Unique Text of Wine.
" We hope that the measure will soon be implemented - declares the director of Confagricoltura Piemonte Ercole Zuccaro - and contribute to the enhancement of a precious productive, environmental and cultural heritage, such as that of the Moscato sorì and the many vineyards of the Alpine valleys and Piedmontese Apennines ".
Piedmont - as Confagricoltura highlights - is rich in these vineyards, cultivated with enormous sacrifices in areas subject to risk of hydrogeological instability and of particular landscape, historical and environmental value. The heroic vineyards, for example, are widespread among the denominations Moscato d'Asti, Dolcetto d'Ovada, Pinerolese, Valsusa, Caluso, Carema, Canavese, Alta Langa, Colline Saluzzesi .
The decree - explains Confagricoltura - identifies heroic vineyards on the basis of possession of at least one requirement between: slope of the land greater than 30%; average altitude above 500 meters above sea level with the exception of vineyards located on the plateau; arrangement of wine-growing plants on terraces and steps. The historic vineyards are also protected, the presence of which is reported in a specific surface / parcel dating back to before 1960 and whose cultivation is characterized by the use of traditional practices and techniques linked to local physical and climatic environments that show strong links with the social and economic systems, cultivated with the use of historical forms of farming linked to the place of production or the presence of historical hydraulic or agricultural arrangements or of particular landscape value.
