The Piedmont Region will invest approximately 4 million euros to distil 42,000 hectoliters of wines which, due to the crisis that arose following the Covid-19 pandemic, brought the stock level well beyond the physiological level.
" This is an important intervention - declares the president of Confagricoltura Piemonte Enrico Allasia - which recognizes the specificity of the wine sector in the regional economy, which is also fundamental as regards tourist attraction and the enhancement of our products ".
The agreement, which will be formalized with regulatory acts in the coming weeks, was reached this afternoon during a meeting between the regional councilor for agriculture Marco Protopapa and the representatives of the wine supply chain.
" The measure was urged by the wine world - explains Ercole Zuccaro, director of Confagricoltura Piemonte who spoke at the meeting yesterday afternoon - to counter the economic repercussions caused by the pandemic. Our companies had started 2020 with great enthusiasm and with data comforting of marketing, especially as regards exports, but the prolonged lockdown has put the sector in crisis. Thanks to the measure of the voluntary distillation of crisis, the winemakers will be able to face the harvest with greater serenity, avoiding production imbalances ".
The agreement reached provides that approximately 5,000 hectoliters of Brachetto d'Acqui docg, 2,000 hectoliters of Piedmont Brachetto and 35,000 hectoliters of wines of the denominations Piedmont and Monferrato are distilled, in the various types.
