PDO and PGI: A SOCIAL AND SUSTAINABLE MODEL TO BE PROTECTED IN MODENA A CONFERENCE ON 27 OCTOBER

A social and sustainable model to be protected for PDOs and PGIs will be the main topic of the conference organized by the Piacere Modena consortium at the headquarters of the Modena Chamber of Commerce at 10am on 27 October and sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Sovereignty, by the Emilia Romagna Region, the Municipality and Province of Modena, the Modena Chamber of Commerce and the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. The conference " PDO and PGI: a sustainable social model to be protected " will be chaired by Enrico Corsini , President of Piacere Modena and of the Consortium for the Protection of Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena , who states: "today it is a current issue and it is useful to take stock of the various facets of sustainability applied to the denomination system, and it is particularly important for the Modena area which is one of the most important reservoirs of geographical indications in the Bel Paese. Furthermore, after the disappointment of last week which recorded a setback at the end of the third round of negotiations with the Council and the EU Commission on the Regulation - of which the Honorable Paolo De Castro is rapporteur - on the future system of European PDO and PGI, in which is expected to strengthen the role of the Consortia and greater protection of GIs, the conference represents an opportunity for operators in the PDO and PGI supply chains to meet and create a system. Our objective – concludes President Corsini – is to convey to the most important stakeholders in the sector what new tools they will have at their disposal to give greater value to all the protagonists of the supply chain and sustainability will be one of the cornerstones of the new regulation”. To talk about it, in a high-level context in which the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry Hon. Francesco Lollobrigida was also invited to participate, a parterre of guests moderated by the Director of the Consortium for the Protection of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena Federico Desimoni, which will be introduced by institutional greetings from the President of Piacere Modena Enrico Corsini , the President of the Modena Chamber of Commerce Giuseppe Molinari , the Mayor of Modena Gian Carlo Muzzarelli and the Councilor for Agriculture, Food, Hunting and Fishing of the Emilia Romagna Region Alessio Moms . Among the voices that will speak, those of Professor Luigi Foffani , professor of Criminal Law at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia regarding sustainability and protection of legality, of the President of the Qualivita Foundation Cesare Mazzetti who will focus on the relationship between sustainability and fair competition to improve competitiveness, of the OriGin General Secretary and Director of the Qualivita Foundation Mauro Rosati whose speech will focus on sustainability and consumer protection through adequate communication, of the Councilor for public works, maintenance and decorum of the city, historic centre, policies for work and legality of the Municipality of Modena Andrea Bosi with a speech on the link between sustainability, quality of life and territorial and social integration. While the Hon. Paolo De Castro, MEP and rapporteur for the European Parliament on the Regulation on PDO and PGI , will inform on the developments of the round which will take place on 24 October and will expose the new scenarios of community legislation on the topic. The Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Hon. Francesco Lollobrigida, has been invited and will be entrusted with the conclusions.
