Paolo Basso, of the Italian Professional Sommellerie Association (ASPI), is honourably in the 14th position in the ranking of "Best Sommelier in the World", a competition by the Sommellerie Internationale Association (ASI), which brings together the Professional Sommeliers Associations of 60 countries in the world. "The Sommellerie Internationale Association is the only association whose Competitions have international validity and constitute the one and highest honour for professionals from all over the world," the Aspi association said, to which Paolo Basso belongs. He had already been awarded with the title of Best Sommelier in Europe in 2010 and now works at Balla Restaurant in Vacallo.
