The only wild grape in Abruzzo, the "Paleovite d’Abruzzo", now grown, will be protected.
This species is part of a small population of "Vitis Vinifera Sylvestris", now rare in Italy, and Cantina Frentana, a social reality of Rocca San Giovanni (Chieti), which has nearly 400 members, has chosen to launch a project for the preservation, study and rebuilding of recently discovered specimens. «These are wild vines, not cultivated, which have always been part of our flora – Attilio Scienza said – since the late Quaternary era. The vine cultivated is the same "Vitis Vinifera Sylvestris" removed from the woods and turned into a variety of production, so that at the genetic level differences are few».
