For Ornellaia this is the earliest harvest of the last twenty years: immediately after the summer holidays it is time to harvest. It was said by Axel Heinz, Winemaker and Director of ORNELLAIA. The great heat of July has slightly advanced the ripening of grapes. Fortunately, in August rains came, waited and welcomed after the long period of drought and heat that characterized the months of June and July. The storm events have refreshed the vines and lowered temperatures, especially at night. Arriving, in this way, to establishing truly favorable conditions to the expression of aromatic grapes.
Monday, August 24, the harvest of the first bunches of Sauvignon began in Ornellaia, with excellent analytical values, a potential level that exceeds 13% and a balanced acidity. For now, we have limited ourselves to "milleviti", the re–grafted with Merlot vineyards, where some plants of Sauvignon remained intact. But, between the end of this week and the beginning of the next one, we will continue with the other Sauvignon and arrive, then, during the first week of September, to the harvest of Viognier. If nice weather continues, it will be a good place also to pick up some of the red varieties.
"I take this opportunity to wish a good harvest and a great 2015 vintage to everyone", Axel Heinz, Oenologist and Director of ORNELLAIA, said.
