ORNELLAIA PRESENTS THE NEW GREENHOUSES OF THE ORNELLAIA 2018

Ornellaia presents the 2018 vintage of Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia, second vin of the Bolgheri estate and today an all-round label, loved by enthusiasts from all over the world. First in its category in Italy, this precious cuvée was born from the 1997 harvest and year after year, it affirms itself as an important expression of its denomination, Bolgheri Rosso Doc. Its character and personality, which show off the style and savoir-faire typical of Ornellaia, combine a promising evolutionary potential with an innate pleasantness. In this last version, Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia presents itself with aromatic complexity and enveloping tannins, reminiscent of the Bolgheri wines of the 2013 and 2010 vintages. 2018 was characterized by a balanced climate with spring rains, which amply supplied the aquifers tested during the previous hot summer. After a rainy spring, the sunny and serene summer accompanied the grapes to the weeks of the harvest in an almost perfect climate. The sugars and acidity developed slowly and the berries, thanks to the abundant hydration of the soil, reached the right size. In September the temperatures were warm during the day and cool during the night and allowed the grapes to preserve the aromas. “After a series of dry vintages, the conditions of 2018 gave a decidedly autumnal touch to the harvest, the ideal premise for a particularly balanced year of great aromatic complexity”, says Axel Heinz, Estate Director. Each single parcel of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot was harvested and vinified separately, and only after the first 12 months of aging in barrique was the blending which was then left to refine another three months in wood before to be bottled as Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia. Olga Fusari, the company's oenologist, describes it as “a wine of great aromatic complexity, a distinctive feature of the year. Between aromas of berries, blackberry, raspberry, red cherry, floral hints of wild rose and spicy notes of pink pepper and licorice open up. It is an enveloping and balanced Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia, with a slender, elegant body and a crunchy and savory finish ". While waiting for the debut of the Ornellaia 2018 flag bearer scheduled for next spring, Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia 2018 already reveals the imprint of the vintage and gives great satisfaction in the glass, promising joy and evolution over time. A classic born in a classic vintage that best expresses the territory of its DOC Bolgheri.

The name ORNELLAIA evokes oenological excellence and interprets the authentic expression of Tuscan beauty. The estate includes a 115-hectare vineyard area on the Tuscan coast, a few steps from the medieval village of Bolgheri and the famous cypress avenue. The range sees at the top the Bolgheri DOC Superiore Ornellaia which is crowned in addition to Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia, Le Volte dell'Ornellaia and the white vines Ornellaia Bianco and Poggio alle Gazze dell'Ornellaia. The constant work of the team and the optimal microclimatic and geological conditions have led in just over thirty years - 1985 was the first vintage of Ornellaia - the wines of the estate to great successes with both Italian and international audiences and critics.
