NIZZA DOCG PHENOMENON: THE NICE PRODUCERS ASSOCIATION CLOSES A RECORD YEAR

With a 27% increase in sales compared to 2022 and a total production of 1,050,000 bottles, the Nice Producers Association closes an unforgettable 2023. There is a great climate of general satisfaction that can be felt among the companies, even more so if we consider that what is about to end has been a very complex year for the Italian red wines which have seen, almost unanimously along the Peninsula, a decline if not even a sudden stop. “ The Nizza DOCG – explains the President of the Association Stefano Chiarlo – represents in this context one of the very few Italian denominations which is instead experiencing a real boom and a continuous rise which rewards and gives value to the efforts and commitment of the producers of the territory that for a long time now have been implementing an inclusive collaboration system in the name of teamwork ”. Only seven years ago, in 2016, 315,000 bottles were sold: since then there has been constant annual growth ranging between 10 and 15% until this year's sensational result. “This is a success that originates both in the promotional activity that we as an Association are carrying out with conviction and commitment, and in the meticulous work that the companies are carrying out to constantly raise the quality level of the wines through constant sharing and comparison ” . The numbers of this escalation cannot but arouse attention: of the 35 producers who were part of the Association in 2016, today there are 100 who claim the denomination, 85 of which are part of the Association itself for a production of around 150 labels between Nizza Docg, Nizza Riserva Docg and Cru. “ The interest in Nizza DOCG – continues Chiarlo – is an interest that goes beyond national borders, just think that the Italian market accounts for 45% while the remainder is sold in over 55 countries around the world. The action carried out to raise and consolidate the positioning of the product was also fundamental: today we are proud to say that the denomination, although "recent", can already be found in quality wine shops and on the wine lists of high-level restaurants, having nothing to fear from comparisons with denominations with a much longer history and tradition ”. The overall picture therefore well justifies the climate of optimism and trust that today animates the producers of Nizza DOCG who, thanks to the positive evolution recorded, are planning to expand the range of products starting from Nizza Riserva and Nizza Cru. “ New products but also great valorisation of old vintages. – continues Chiarlo – The producers in fact have a series of vintages currently on the market such as 2021 which is rightly considered a 5-star vintage. Then there is the Nizza Riserva 2020 which is characterized by great balance and softness and the 2019, a vintage of great structure, character and longevity. Furthermore, the next 2022 and 2023 vintages, although poor from a yield point of view, are confirming their excellent quality level. ” Interest in the Association is also growing, with new companies that understand the importance of being part of a context whose added value lies precisely in the ability to team up and amplify knowledge, know-how and critical mass. “ During this very important year – concludes Chiarlo – also in collaboration and synergy with the Nizza Regional Enoteca, we wanted to best celebrate the denomination through the two key events for our territory: “Il Nizza è” and the “Forum Nizza ” which took place in Turin in November and which saw the involvement of over 1000 people including operators, press and wine lovers who were able to taste professionally and delve deeper into the nuances of the denomination through Walk Around tasting and dedicated Masterclasses. 2024 is now upon us and will see us very busy in various activities which will all have as their lowest common denominator the enhancement and promotion of the excellence of the Nizza denomination to confirm if not further increase this success story. ”.
