Claudia Ines Quini has been elected as the new president of the OIV (International Organization of Vine and Wine). The appointment was during the 35th World Congress of Vine and Wine in Turkey.
Quini is a chemical engineer and deputy head of research at the National Institute for Vitiviniculture of Argentina (Inv). The Frenchman Yves Bénard left his place.
On the agenda:
- anticipation of future trends in the wine market
- expansion of the Organization towards Asia and the Americas
- environmental, social and economic sustainability
Claudia Ines Quini will be in office for three years to tackle these challenges.
Here are his first words as president:
"We need to reassess the strategic priorities of the OIV, so as to obtain a more complete overview of the wine market and be able to anticipate future trends , such as the growing demand for low alcohol content products and the ever increasing interest greater for traditional wines (..) Oiv also plays an active role in the development of sustainable viticulture . We will ensure that the model of sustainable development also involves social and economic problems. We will also work to "enlarge" the organization through the incorporation of emerging countries into member states, with particular attention to Asia and the Americas ».
