The new sparkling wine from the vineyard of Nebrodi Park, the largest protected area of Sicily, has been created
Irvo, the Wine and Oil Regional Institute of the Sicily Region, in collaboration with private wineries, obtained the Classic Method from Catarratto grapes, in an experimental vineyard at an altitude of 1,200 meters above sea level. It is the "Nebrodi" project, which aims to study the potential of mountain areas for the production of sparkling wines.
«The vineyard – Antonio Sparacio (Irvo) explained – can play an important role in the defense of the soil and land. Sustainable farming techniques, with the help of permanent grassing, represent a barrier against erosion and facilitate the processes of soil conservation. If placed at the edge of the woods, the vineyard is a physical barrier against the risk of fires. Furthermore, the increased demand for labor that requires the cultivation of the vine, compared to other agricultural activities, causes men to be more present in the territory and to play indirectly a role of greater control».
