National Seminar on Italian raisin wines

Sicily will be hosting, in the beautiful island of Pantelleria, the annual Day of the ONAV Taster, a moment of meeting, comparison and growth that the Association dedicates to all ONAV tasters.

An event entirely dedicated to the "Passiti d’Italia" wines (Raisin Wines of Italy), particularly of Sicily: the full program, effectively, provides for the II National Seminar on Italian dessert wines, guided tours, tastings and meetings with winemakers and technicians of the sector.

The event this year will see on the forefront the section of Palermo, which organized the meeting, and which for three days will be the "hostess" of the national meeting. «The National Seminar is undoubtedly an essential moment for the growth of ONAV membership – Vito Intini, national president , explains – not surprisingly we meet in Pantelleria, the island from which one of the most famous dessert wines comes. But Sicily offers numerous productions of excellence that are worldwide famous, so I think that every ONAV member should, at least once, visit this magnificent region and meet in person the protagonists of Sicilian winemaking».

The program provides for numerous excursions with visits to the most interesting wineries in Pantelleria, in meetings that will open to ONAV members that treasure chest of wine quality and excellence that today Pantelleria represents well beyond national borders.

The program at a glance:

On the day of Friday, 26th June, arrival of participants between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and accommodation at the Mursia–Cossyra Hotel (pictured below). After a welcome cocktail, at 11:30 a.m., at the square of the Mursia hotel, departure for a visit to a winery and tasting of wines accompanied by typical local products. At 5:00 p.m. departure for a guided nature walk through the prehistory of Pantelleria (Village of Mursia – Necropolis of Sesi) or relax in the pool. At 9:00 p.m. Social dinner in the Lampare Hall with typical Sicilian cuisine and wines of the province of Trapani.

In the early morning of Saturday 27th June, after office operations, beginning at 9:30 a.m. of the second National Seminar on Italian Raisin Wines, especially from Sicily. Greetings by the national Chairman and by authorities and then Presentation and guided tasting of Great Raisin Wines of the North, the Centre and the South. At 1:30 p.m. Business lunch prepared using local products and wines of Sicily and at 4:30 p.m. departure for guided tours to wineries with tasting of dessert wines, walks in nature and archaeological sites. At 9:00 p.m. Gala dinner in a typical Pantelleria restaurant with special menu: "At the gates of Africa".

At 9:30 a.m. of Sunday, 28th June departure to a food, wine and culture journey that includes a visit to the Barbican Castle (Show of Imperial Heads), a visit to the spas of the Lake of Venus and to the natural Saunas of Gadir, a visit to the Donnafugata Garden and the Pantelleria’s Vineyards and finally a visit to a winery with wine tasting paired with local products and business breakfast buffet.
