MOSCATO DI SCANZO: the rich history for tasting in Rome, the study of the DNA of the smallest DOCG in Italy is underway

  • 07/11/2012

Moscato di Scanzo , a fine meditation passito, is being tasted today in Rome at the Archconfraternity of the Bergamaschi from 11 to 16 thanks to the initiative of the Moscato di Scanzo Protection Consortium

This wine has a very long tradition of over 2000 years of history. The first written evidence dates back to 1347, the study of this rich tradition also requires adequate scientific tools and in fact the genetic mapping has been started by the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Milan. The project launched by the Consortium with the Univarsity intends to apply molecular biology to the study of the grape variety, to deepen "knowledge and increase its potential. The definition of the varietal identity of the wine thanks to genetic mapping, will in fact allow to recover the best strains of Moscato di Scanzo for reproduction, increase the longevity of the vineyard and select the molecules that, already present in the initial berry, must be preserved throughout the production process and found in the final product, to enhance the maximum taste and aroma and reach levels of ever higher and more constant qualities. Moscato di Scanso is the smallest Docg in Italy , the vineyard can only be grown in Scanzorosciate (BG) with the native Moscato grape variety. This fine Docg produces 60,000 bottles.

Today's tasting is held in collaboration with the Representative Office of the Province of Bergamo in Rome, with Turismo Bergamo and with the Archconfraternity of the Bergamaschi.
