Monte delle Vigne , the Pizzarotti family's winery on the hills of Ozzano Taro (Parma), reaches a new milestone in its sustainable path: the 2021 harvest will be the first entirely organic and certified by ICEA - Institute for Ethical and Environmental Certification . "I am excited and proud of the result achieved - declares Paolo Pizzarotti , president of Monte delle Vigne - This harvest, which is part of a wider sustainability project that we have been carrying out since 2016, is our act of love for the Hills of Ozzano Taro , a territory very dear to us because the roots of our family history and our affections lie here. A territory of which we feel we are guardians ”. Until mid-October two teams, each made up of twelve people, will be engaged in the nocturnal harvest and by hand, in crates, in the 40 hectares of vineyards. The decision to carry out this operation without the aid of machinery responds to the desire to select the bunches with the utmost care, while the choice of night hours aims to prevent unwanted maceration and pre-fermentation to obtain maximum expressiveness. "This year the grapes, of reduced quantity following the spring frost on the night of April 6, are nevertheless of high quality thanks to the favorable climatic trend of the last few months: the sunny weather in June combined with scarce rains and the lowering of temperatures at the end of August, with good temperature variations between day and night, suggest a great vintage for our wines - explains Lorenzo Numanti , managing director of Monte delle Vigne - From the agricultural point of view , our harvest is now 100% organic certified % : this means that the wines produced will be entirely organic and we will come out with almost all of them in 2022. Only for Nabucco we will have to wait until 2024 because it requires a few years of refinement. But we know that haste doesn't pay with wine ”.
