MD invests in the wine department: 13.2 bottles sold

Quality (at the right price), breadth of the offer, attention to the latest trends: these are the strengths of a department that is growing in double figures and is becoming increasingly central to the group's strategy. It was talked about at Vinitaly in Verona.

MD continues to establish itself as a sign of large-scale distribution increasingly distant from the canons of the discount, a growth that is also evident from the new proposals of the constantly evolving wine department.

In recent months MD has in fact subjected the wine shelf to a profound revision which today presents it enriched and rationalized by inserting prestigious and trendy labels, and a wide choice of DOCG, DOC, IGT, local and organic wines.

In short, in MD the wine department is no longer an "accessory" department but an important link for the Italian brand, which helps to retain customers and attract new ones, also thanks to a precise strategy: to give the customer the certainty of buying. a quality product at the right price. A goal made possible not only by the constant search for premium and current products, but also by a stringent chemical-physical and organoleptic analysis protocol which resulted in over 600 checks on the wines offered in 2020.

And the consumer seems to like it: after a 2020 of record sales, supported by the anomaly represented by the pandemic, the double-digit growth in volume and value is also confirmed in 2021 which records 13.2% of bottles sold at week 39 and a 12.7% of turnover at the checkout.

Data that promise to close the year with a decidedly positive sign compared to the more contained forecasts for the sector of a 2021 in which home consumption and therefore the purchase of wines in large distribution has paid the price of the newly found normality outside the home.

" MD's goal is to make wines an attractive" family ": the consumer must be able to choose to shop in MD also for wines ", explained Giuseppe Cantone, MD SpA commercial director, speaking at the round table "The wine market in modern distribution: new balances and new opportunities ”, which took place this morning at Vinitaly in Verona.
