The estate presents Masseto 2017 and its second wine, Massetino 2018

It's time for Masseto's debut. After months and months of rest in the aging cellar, two of the wines most awaited by collectors from all over the world finally enter the international stage. The first is Masseto; the second is his second wine, Massetino, a young expression that already shines with its own light.

The two wines are the offspring of complementary vintages: the sunny and dry 2017 was followed by a 2018 that amply supplied the water reserves tested the previous year. Despite such distinct climatic trends, both wines show an extraordinary balance, which is due to the essence of the Masseto estate: the unique conformation of its soils. Characterized by a vein of Pliocene blue clays re-emerged from the sea, they artfully regulate the water needs of plants, absorbing excesses and keeping the roots fresh and moist even in dry periods. Such special qualities combined with the Mediterranean sun and coastal breezes create the ideal conditions for slow ripening of the grapes.

From this same cradle, the roads of the two wines begin to stand out in the cellar, an architectural work of art excavated with clean and deep cuts in the blue clay, with the aim of offering ideal conditions for winemaking and storage of wine and reducing the environmental impact to a minimum.

The wines resulting from an extremely rigorous selection are destined for Masseto; while the cuvée not used for the estate's first wine is dedicated to Massetino.

"Masseto 2017 is certainly the son of its vintage, enclosing the maturity and concentration of a particularly sunny and dry season. In the glass it opens in a kaleidoscope of sensations: from black fruits and spicy and licorice notes on the nose, to a dense tannic structure and velvety that envelops the palate. It has a vibrant acidity and stretches in the finish almost as if you don't want to run out. Despite being the result of one of the hottest vintages, 2017 has the character of a typical Masseto " comments Axel Heinz, Director of estate.

Massetino 2018 is a second wine with a harmonious and balanced profile. "The wine has a dark ruby color with violet reflections. The nose is very expressive, dominated by lively and ripe cherry fruits, with spicy and balsamic nuances and a touch of toasted oak. On the palate it is elegant, with a compact texture. and silky and refined tannins that support a brilliant and pure expression of fruit " continues Axel Heinz. With the 2018 harvest Massetino blows out the second candle, and following the path of his older brother, from this year it will be available on all markets (except for Italy, the United States and Canada) through the Place de Bordeaux.

Masseto is the name of a contemporary myth: a wine, a vineyard, an estate. The potential of the slope where the Masseto vineyard of the same name stands today, on the Tuscan coast, was sensed in the early 1980s, when, despite all predictions, advice and local tradition, the first vines were planted. The intuition paid off. The blue clay, the fresh coastal breezes and the excellent refraction of light guaranteed by the Mediterranean Sea contribute to the intriguing mix of power, elegance and complexity that distinguishes the wine of the estate. The Masseto has been internationally acclaimed since its inception in 1986.

Masseto, from the 2017 harvest, is accompanied by the second Massetino wine. Both are born on the Masseto hill in 11 densely planted hectares, both are transformed from precious grapes into desired bottles of wine in the cellar of the estate designed by the Zito Mori studio and inaugurated in April 2019. From here the two wines leave for the world , every autumn, through the Place de Bordeaux.

The company team is made up of six passionate professionals: Axel Heinz, Estate Director, Eleonora Marconi oenologist, Tim Banks, Sales & Marketing Director, Vianney Gravereaux and Susanne Weber, respectively Global Sales Manager and Brand Manager and Elena Oprea, Communication Manager. The Masseto estate is part of the group controlled by the Frescobaldi family.
