"Mafiozo" wine in Sweden: penalty for the producer

  • 25/09/2013

"Mafiozo" wine commercialized in Sweden. The Region of Puglia claims for penalties to the producer.
The councilor Nardoni wrote to the ambassador of Sweden about the wine commercialized by a Swedish company (the Concealed Wines) with the label "Mafiozo" and the image of the famous gangster Lucky Luciano with the wording IGP 'Salento'. The Region of Puglia is asking for sanctions for the producer.
The regional councilor explained: "While Puglia was asking for and obtaining the international recognition of its quality products (see the brand quality products Puglia - a community collective mark of quality with an indication of origin that guarantees the quality and the origin of the product - ed) there are those who still think - the councilor says - to be allowed to take advantage of the Puglia sounding and more generally, of the reference to Italy's underworld, to get gross exposure at the expense of a sector that, instead, has become synonymous of great accuracy, development and modernity''.
The councilor Nardoni added: ''The IGP must comply with rigid EU and national rules and I doubt that in the blend of grapes used by this Swedish company there are only native vines of Salento. This initiative - Nardoni writes in his letter to the ambassador - could seriously damage the productive system that has made considerable efforts, focusing on quality, and the image of local products, but also the reputation of the Italian State and its citizens. The Region of Puglia - he concludes - is keen to persecute any violation and ask the necessary actions to punish the producer for the wrongs suffered''.
