HARVEST: MORANDO (MONTALBERA), 'CAUSE OF CRAZY CLIMATE WE EXPECT A -15%"

"Montalbera area spared from hail"

«There are production losses but they are not as significant as in other areas of Northern Italy also because fortunately the territory that includes the reality of Montalbera (135 hectares) was not affected by hailstorms and we obviously hope it will not be in the future. As far as our area of Monferrato Astigiano is concerned, we will have a decrease of around 15% in grape production. Also because last year a lot was produced and therefore, as a typical Piedmontese saying also states, when the vineyard produces a lot one year, as happened in 2022, the following year it suffers a decline which is also physiological. This 15% less is therefore not all to be linked to bad weather but to normal natural changes». This was declared by Franco Morando, General Manager of Montalbera , an estate that extends between the territories of Monferrato and the Piedmontese Langa. «As regards Montalbera specifically - continues Morando - with our cellar we have focused on an excess of qualitative production leading to thinning out of the Ruché denominations, in particular "Laccent" and "Lfootprint", on the Barbera d'Asti, i.e. the "Nuda", as well as on the "Nudo" Chardonnay produced in Castiglione Tinella and also on the Viognier».
