HARVEST FORECASTS 2020 EXCELLENT QUALITY FOR CASA PALADIN

An exceptional year is expected, with lower production but excellent quality. The first balance of Carlo Paladin, co-owner of the Paladin Winery together with his brother Roberto, for the estates in Veneto, Franciacorta and Tuscany is positive.

First of all in the area located on the border between Eastern Veneto and Friuli, where Paladin and Bosco del Merlo wines are produced, between the provinces of Venice and Pordenone.

The warm and sunny days, alternating with regular rains, now make it possible for the leaves to be fully active in photosynthesis and therefore a good accumulation of sugars in the berries. The current temperatures are also perfect, with a few peaks above 30 ° C and a temperature range between night and day hours of 10 degrees, factors that favor the fixation of aromas and the maintenance of good acidity. >>

The region Veneto

In the countryside, veraison has now begun, when the grape changes color from green to its characteristic nuance, more accentuated on Pinot Noir and early varieties. And if an early harvest was expected at the start of the season, today we are back on average.

Production will be down compared to the average due to a lower number of fertile buds, with - 25% on early Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay varieties, - 15% on Glera and - 10% on aromatic grape varieties. A reduction largely offset by quality.

Excellent forecasts also for Castello Bonomi, in Franciacorta, where after the sampling of the past few days, the harvest will start next week.

An early bud break and a spring with little rainfall made us think of an early harvest, but the climatic course of May, June and July - with regular rains and maximum temperatures in the seasonal average - then rebalanced the times. The constant alpine storms and the absence of excessive heat peaks favored a good activity of the leaf wall, while the continuous thermal excursion slowed down ripening, bringing it back to normal and favoring the right balance between the different components of the grape. The vintage, therefore, promises to be excellent.

Tuscany

Also for Premiata Fattoria di Castelvecchi , in Radda in Chianti, there are excellent prospects for the quality of the grapes, albeit with a slight decline in expected yields with a drop of 5-10%. The dry and sunny spring and the rains of June maintained a good climatic balance even in the flowering and fruit set period, with a homogeneous and regular development of the bunch.

The climatic trend of the next few weeks will be fundamental to guarantee the maintenance of the good health conditions of the grapes and good temperature variations between day and night which, in these days, record variations up to 15 degrees. This will allow the enhancement of the aromas, the evolution of acidity and the accumulation of sugar.

After an early harvest forecast, with bud break starting two weeks earlier than expected, the trend returned to normal in the following months and the harvest is expected to take place between the end of September and the beginning of October.
