The 2017 vintage pays homage to the revolutionary wine made by Fausto Maculan in 1977. The same bottle, limited edition edition and label is offered again

Fratta , the Bordeaux blend that is Maculan's emblem in Italy and around the world, turns forty and the company celebrates it with a special bottle . The first vintage dates back to 1977, daughter of the study and inspiration of the then young winemaker Fausto Maculan, who was determined to carry out an ambitious project: to create a great red capable of competing and proposing a new voice in the panorama of international excellence, including Super Tuscan and Premiers Cru of Bordeaux. To celebrate the anniversary, Angela and Maria Vittoria Maculan , daughters of Fausto, chose to go back to the beginnings, creating a limited edition of 3,298 bottles , the same number from 1977, using the same Burgundy bottle and a label reproducing the original, at the time revolutionary because it contained all the information relating to the harvest, the processing of the grapes and the production of wine. "Our desire was to create a special bottle to honor the dedication, sacrifices, successes and satisfactions that Fratta has given us in forty years - explain Angela and Maria Vittoria - A label that immediately entered the wine lists of the best restaurants and has been recognized by critics as one of the great Italian reds, able to garner support regardless of the developments that have involved it over the years ". The first Fratta came to life from Cabernet grapes harvested in a vineyard in the Breganze hills, in via Fratta , in fact. Harvest in crates, careful selection of each bunch, a light drying and a single week dedicated to fermentation and maceration, refining in French oak barrels. "The result was as I hoped - remembers Fausto Maculan - a red wine, intense and elegant, modern and classic at the same time, but above all a wine that aroused emotions". In 1997 Fausto decided to add Merlot to Cabernet to give it more roundness and softness. The latest vintage that is now being launched on the market, 2017, is also the result of the marriage between these two varieties. The Cabernet Sauvignon grape comes from a vineyard of 10,000 specimens per hectare planted in 1984 on the hills of Breganze, while the Merlot bunches are harvested in a vineyard planted more recently, in 2008, in a tuffaceous soil on the top of the hill in Via Fratta, where it all began.
