FIVI ASKS TO POSTPON VINITALY

Matilde Poggi , president of the Italian Federation of Independent Winegrowers , asked Verona Fiere to postpone Vinitaly to 2021. The request, presented on March 10 during the confrontation between Verona Fiere and the Presidents of the supply chain, comes from the actual difficulty of the family-run wineries to be physically present in the new dates of June, a period in which the work in the vineyard is a lot, but also for the emergency situation that involves at this moment not only our country, but also other European states and the rest of the world. "We discussed internally the question of a Vinitaly in June - says Matilde Poggi - and the majority of the 220 winemakers who had already joined the fair said they were in favor of a postponement to 2021. FIVI was the only association among those present compared to Verona Fiere who presented this position. If, despite our request, Vinitaly 2020 will be confirmed, we reserve the right to start a comparison with Verona Fiere to evaluate the terms of our eventual participation at the end of the emergency ".

FIVI - Italian Federation of Independent Winegrowers The Italian Federation of Independent Winegrowers (FIVI) is an association founded in 2008 with the aim of representing the figure of the Winemaker in front of the institutions, promoting the quality and authenticity of Italian wines. By statute, only producers who meet certain specific criteria can join the FIVI: "The FIVI Winemaker cultivates his vineyards, bottles his own wine, personally taking care of his product. He sells all or part of his harvest in the bottle, under his responsibility , with its name and label. " Currently there are about 1300 associated producers, from all Italian regions, for a total of about 13,000 hectares of vineyards, for an average of about 10 hectares of vineyards per farm. Almost 95 million bottles are marketed and the total turnover is close to 0.8 billion euros, for an export value of 330 million euros. The 13,000 hectares of vineyards are conducted 51% in a biological / biodynamic regime and 49% according to the principles of integrated pest management.
