Expo 2015: 1.7 billion spent for foreigners at the table, Coldiretti assesses

The first map on the streets of taste during Expo 2015 prepared by Coldiretti states that «the foreign tourists arriving in Italy for Expo are more attracted compared to the average by Made in Italy agri–food that has established itself as the real engine of arrivals from abroad».

Furthermore, «One–third of the budget that the foreign tourists will spend during their stay in Italy for Expo will be destined to food, with as well as one billion euro to restaurants, pizzerias, bars, cafes and rotisseries, to which we must add 750 million euro for purchases of wines and food products to consume or give away».

«The appreciation for wine varies greatly depending on nationality, with Americans who – Coldiretti continues – particularly like Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, Pinot Gris, Barolo and Prosecco, which is much appreciated also by Germans, together with Amarone della Valpolicella and Collio, while Russians drink especially Chianti, Barolo, Asti and Moscato d’Asti and the British Prosecco, Chianti, Barolo. For the extra virgin olive oil, foreign tourists can count on 43 territorial designations present throughout the Italian territory (...)».
